IREPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From Vice-Mayor Ira and Councilman Hartnett August 26, 2002 Subject First Amendment to City Attorney Employment Agreement allowing reimbursement for temporary housing located outside of Redwood City. Recommendation Adopt Resolution approving First Amendment to City Attorney Employment Agreement and authorize the Mayor to execute the First Amendment on behalf of the City. Background On July 30, 2001, the City of Redwood City entered into an Employment Agreement (the "Agreement") with Stan Yamamoto for City Attorney services. Among other things, the Agreement provides for reimbursement of rental costs associated with temporary housing for the City Attorney and/or his family. Reimbursement is currently limited to temporary housing located within Redwood City. For the past year, the City Attorney has diligently worked to sell his home in Southern California. An offer on the home was accepted during the first week of August 2002 and escrow is scheduled to close at the end of the month. To allow his daughter to register for the upcoming school year, the City Attorney was required to quickly locate temporary housing and was unable to confine his housing search to Redwood City. Appropriate housing has been located in Santa Clara County. The attached amendment would allow the City Attorney to be reimbursed for temporary housing in San Mateo or Santa Clara counties. Alternative The City Council could choose not to approve the amendment. Fiscal Impact The Agreement currently provides for reimbursement of up to two thousand dollars ($2,000) per month for nine months. No reimbursement has been used to date.
