development area for the cultivation of mature plants, but all products derived <br />from these plants are prohibited from entering the commercial distribution chain. <br /> <br />Staff has evaluated the CO district as a potential location for cannabis business and <br />proposes amending Article 59 (Cannabis Cultivation and Commercial Cannabis Activity) <br />of the Zoning Ordinance and Chapter 32, Article V, Division 7 (Regulation of Cannabis <br />Businesses) of the Municipal Code to allow delivery centers and nurseries in the CO <br />Zoning District with a Use Permit and to make minor clean up changes. <br /> <br />Through the Use Permit process, staff will evaluate the proposed characteristics of the <br />use and its compatibility with the adjacent businesses. Environmental analysis per <br />CEQA will be performed through this process. <br /> <br />Approximately 43 acres are zoned Commercial Office (CO) in the City. These areas are <br />clustered predominantly around Veterans Boulevard with one property along Woodside <br />and Bay Road. <br /> <br />According to state law and City ordinance, commercial cannabis businesses are <br />prohibited if located within 600 feet of a school, childcare center, youth center, public <br />park or library. The map in Figure 2 shows these protected uses and how they affect the <br />CO Zoning District. Only the purple properties along Veterans Boulevard, Convention <br />Way and Price Avenue are available once the protected uses are considered.
