reports, oral and written public testimony, and all other documents and evidence in the
public record on the Project.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HRAC OF THE CITY OF
REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS:
1. The HRAC, having independently heard, considered, and weighed all the
evidence in the record presented on behalf of all parties and being fully informed of the
Project, hereby finds that the Project is consistent with the Historic Preservation
Ordinance.
2. The HRAC finds that the proposed Project meets the Permit Approval
Criteria as listed in Historic Preservation Ordinance Section 40.10, and specifically
criteria A and C:
A. In the case of any property designated a historic landmark, the
proposed work would not detrimentally alter, destroy or
adversely affect any exterior architectural feature.
The proposed work would not alter, destroy, or adversely affect any
exterior architectural feature because the kiosk would be located at
the entrance of the cemetery where there are currently no exterior
architectural features.
C. In the case of construction of a new improvement, building, or
structure upon a historic site, the exterior of such improvements
will not adversely affect and will be compatible with the external
appearance of existing designated improvements, buildings, and
structures on said site.
The HRAC should also review the project under Criteria C in order to
consider the entire cemetery site as a whole. Staff does find that the
proposed project considers the existing structures and design within
the site, and utilizes similar colors and architectural styles to be
compatible.
3. The HRAC also finds that the required Findings for an Architectural Permit
can be made:
A. The existence of sufficient variety in the design of the structure
and grounds to avoid monotony in the external appearance.
The kiosk is a simple wooden structure that would be compatible with
existing fences and structures in the cemetery. It also avoids
monotony by utilizing ornate details under the gables to provide
architectural interest.
ATTY/RES0.0055/HRAC RESO RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF ARCHITECTURAL PERMIT AT UNION CEMETERY
REV:06-08-18 PR
