CHIEF OF POLICE: The eChief of pPolice shall be the head of the police department, and shall have all the powers that are now, or may hereafter be conferred upon sheriffs and other peace officers by the laws of the sState. It shall be his their duty to preserve the public peace, and to suppress riots, tumults, and disturbances. Their His orders shall be promptly executed by the police officers of the eCity, and every citizen shall lend him them a i d when requested for the arrest of offenders, the maintenance of public order, or the protection of life and property. They He shall execute and return all processes issued to him them by legal authority, and it is hereby made his their duty, to arrest persons violating any law of the United States or the sState or ordinance of the eCity. He They shall have such other powers and duties appertaining to his their office as maybe prescribed by the eCouncil or rules of the police department. They He shall appoint and remove all subordinates in the department, make rules and regulations for the management of the department, all in accordance with the provisions of this eCharter and subject to the approval of the eCity mManager. CHIEF OF FIRE DEPARTMENT: The eChief of the Wire dDepartment shall be the head of the fire department, and shall have charge and supervision over all matters relating to the prevention and extinction of fires, and of all measures necessary to guard and protect all property impaired thereby. During a fire, the eChief of the Fire dDepartment shall be in supreme authority over the territory involved therein, and all persons in the immediate vicinity of said fire shall be subject to his their orders.
