<br /> SA <br /> Page 24 <br />THE <br />PROPOSAL <br />After looking at Redwood City's parking situation, conventional parking requirements from <br />across the country, academic research, innovative new parking requirements, and working with <br />Downtown stakeholders, the staff team has developed a proposal for new parking requirements <br />for Downtown Redwood City. <br />Despite everyone's best efforts, the parking requirements ultimately adopted will not be flawless. <br />No parking requirements are. Because of the massive amounts of research undertaken and the <br />hard work of the committee it is safe to say that they will be very good, but they cannot be <br />perfect. As discussed earlier, the parking needs of different businesses are very tough to <br />determine, even within very tightly defined categories. To add to the challenge, the same <br />business can generate a different parking need within different cities and contexts. As ifit wasn't <br />tricky enough already, the needs of certain businesses change over time, adding another level of <br />complexity. <br />Because of the difficult nature of parking, it is f~ parking requirement applied <br />apparent that we cannot have a false sense of <br />security from our parking requirements.
