Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Repair Program
Recommendation
By Motion:
1) Approve Change Order No.3 in the amount of $19,133.
2) Accept completed improvements for the 2003-2004 Tree Preservation and Sidewalk
Repair Program
3) Release the contract retention to JJR Construction, Inc.
Background
The contract was duly advertised and three sealed bids were received and opened at the
Office of the City Clerk on May 5,2004. On June 7, 2004, the City Council approved the
contract documents and specifications and awarded the contract to JJR Construction, Inc.,
of San Mateo, in the amount of $569,652.00. There were two change orders, Change
Order No.1 to increase quantities in the amount of $142,413.00 and Change Order No.2
to include the installation of rubber sidewalk panels in the amount of $56,000, for a total
amended contract amount of $768,065.00.
Approval of Change Order No. 3 is requested for additional construction that occurred
during the final construction phase ofthe project. There are three reasons for the increase
over the approved contract amount:
. There were requests from property owners to add cost shared work and other
site work which they paid for. Staff did not plan on these additions during the
previous change order requests and cooperated to perform the requested
repairs.
. The inclusion of sites to complete a full street and not stop the work in the
middle of a block when the contract amount was reached. This provides a clear
stopping point and eliminates future inconveniences to the residents on the
street.
. There were additional rubber sidewalk sites included.
The final scope of the project was increased by an additional $19,133 or 2.49% over the
amended contract amount.
Total Contract Amount
Original Contract Amount $569,652.00
Previously approved Change Orders $198,413.00
Change Order No. 3 $ 19.133.00
Final Contract Amount $787,198.00
