<br /> 6.3A <br />REPORT Page 1 <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br />February 27, 2006 <br />Subject <br />Surplus Property <br />Recommendation <br />By resolution, declare one "1987 Pierce Arrow Fire Engine" surplus and authorize the <br />sale of this vehicle in a manner most advantageous to the city. <br />Background <br />The Public Works Services Department, in coordination with the Finance Department, <br />acts as the centralized collection and storage point for City personal property, either <br />worn out and/or surplus for various City departments. <br />Government Code Section 37351 and Section 3-~ of the Charter of the City of <br />Redwood City as amended, permits the sale of any City property having an appraised <br />value of five thousand dollars or more through public notice or public bid for not less <br />than 90% of the appraised value. <br />Attached hereto is exhibit "A" describing the surplus fire engine. It has been appraised <br />at a value of more than $5,000. This piece of surplus property was originally purchased <br />and put into the fire service in 1987. It was replaced and taken out of service in 2005, <br />after serving 18 years and has exceeded its useful life. <br />Alternative <br />Continue collecting and storing the City's surplus property, however, this property is <br />taking up valuable space. The longer this vehicle is stored the less resale value it will <br />have. <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The revenue from this surplus property will be returned to the EqUiPrn?AePlacernenl <br />Fund, consislent wilh fund management practices. ~!
