6.1.K. - Page 1 <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />August 27, 2018 <br />SUBJECT <br />2018-2019 Extended Day Learning Services Agreement between the City of Redwood <br />City and the Redwood City School District <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the 2018- <br />2019 Extended Day Learning Services Agreement between the City and the Redwood <br />City School District <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department, in partnership <br />with the Redwood City School District (District), operates After School Learning Centers <br />directly on school campuses to approximately 650 children in Redwood City and the <br />North Fair Oaks Area each year. The City has been a partner with the District for the <br />past 20 years serving those children who have been specifically identified needing <br />academic support and/or who would benefit from social and recreational enrichment <br />programs. For the 2018-2019 School Year, we have been assigned the following <br />schools: Fair Oaks, Hawes, John Gill, Kenned, and Selby Lane. Services include after <br />school tutoring, recreation and enrichment programming such as life skills and family <br />education opportunities. The majority of funding for the programs comes from After <br />School Education and Safety Program (ASES) State and 21St Century Community <br />Learning Federal grants managed by the District. <br />The City provides an after school program Coordinator on each site, and maintains a <br />1:20 ratio of Youth Development Leaders to children. The City also works with many <br />other partners to provide quality activities and educational experiences. Program <br />partners include: Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative, Boys and Girls Club, Redwood <br />City Family Centers, Redwood City 2020, Police Activities League, San Mateo County <br />Office of Education, Sheriffs Activities League, Stanford University and others. <br />The agreement includes the "BASE" (school day) funding as well as the <br />"SUPPLEMENTAL" (non -school day) funding.
