We have a massive housing crisis here in the Bay, and for young people like <br />myself, pooling resources together to collectively rent a house is often one of the only ways we can afford to <br />live here. It may not be an ideal arrangement, but it's one borne of necessity, and it offers an efficient way to <br />make the most of our limited housing stock. <br />If we really do want to prevent people from different families from living together in a single family house, the <br />correct solution isn't to ban the practice but to fix the core problems that forced this situation. Allow property <br />owners to build duplexes or triplexes on their lots so they can increase the housing stock themselves. Make <br />further investments in public transit and bike lanes so newcomers don't feel the need to own a car that requires <br />parking and contributed to congestion. But simply banning the rentals amounts to saying that if you aren't rich <br />enough, you can't Iive here. <br />Sabeek Pradhan <br />
