The first phase in the Project is to <br />conduct a Financial Feasibility Study (Study) and Cost Benefit Analysis (Analysis), which will <br />assist in determining whether new ferry service to Redwood City is viable. If the Study and <br />Analysis conclude that new ferry service to Redwood City is viable, the City and the Port of <br />Redwood City (Port) will consider moving forward with developing a Business Plan which will <br />outline the steps of constructing a terminal and beginning new ferry service. <br />The ferry service seeks to help alleviate congestion along the US -101 corridor and provide an <br />additional transportation alternative. Origin and destination points for the possible ferry service <br />will include San Francisco and the East Bay. The terminal will be located on Port right-of-way. <br />Ferry service will be provided by the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA). <br />Initial service will be during weekday commute periods. As the service matures, midday, <br />evening, weekend and special event service could be introduced. The ferry is anticipated to make <br />a trip from the Redwood City terminal to San Francisco in under an hour. <br />Initial conceptual studies were completed in 2007 by the Port and WETA. The initial concept for <br />the Project described a terminal and landside facilities, which included: <br />-A single float capable of loading two vessels at once <br />-300 parking spaces <br />-Long-term bike storage, and <br />-Curb space for last mile shuttle connections <br />Since those studies were first completed in 2007, housing and employment characteristics <br />throughout the mid -peninsula have changed and as a result the potential ferry terminal and <br />landside facilities may change. <br />REV: 08-31-18 PR <br />San Mateo County Transportation Authority/City of Redwood City <br />Redwood City Ferry Project <br />Page 12 of 18 14740234.2 <br />
