<br />6-1C <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From tho City ManagAr <br /> <br />March 27, 2006 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Approval of Professional Services Agreement - Kennedy/Jenks Consultants -Redwood <br />City Recycled Water Project - Phase 1 - Distribution System Design - Skyway and <br />Seaport Project Area. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Approve and authorize the execution of a Professional Services Agreement with <br />Kennedy/Jenks Consultants of San Francisco, California relating to the Recycled Water <br />Project - Phase 1 - Distribution System Design - Skyway and Seaport Project Area, in an <br />amount not to exceed $546,400.00. <br /> <br />Background <br />In early 2001, staff conducted a competitive consultant selection process for the purpose of <br />recommending to the Council the most experienced and best qualified firm to assist the <br />City in determining the feasibility of recycled water as an additional water supply. <br /> <br />On June 11, 2001, the City Council approved the initial agreement with Kennedy/Jenks <br />Consultants to perform the Water Recycling Feasibility Study for the Redwood Shores <br />Area, which was presented and accepted in January 2002. Based on this report and the <br />evolving understanding of the threat of a major water shortage, the City Council <br />established new, two-year priorities, including: <br /> <br />~ Address Redwood City Water Supply Assurance <br />~ Implement Water Recycling Project <br />~ Regional Water Supply: Fix the System <br /> <br />In Ju ne 2002, the City Cou ncil accepted the final report, Redwood City Water Use Forecast <br />- 2000 to 2020, and directed staff to amend the City's Urban Water Management Plan to <br />incorporate the forecast data. <br /> <br />In August 2002, the City Council reviewed and accepted the final report for the Water <br />Recycling Feasibility Study for Redwood City. At staffs request, the Council also <br />authorized negotiations of a scope of engineering services for the design of the distribution <br />system for the proposed Recycled Water Project with Kennedy/Jenks Consultants. <br /> <br />In the spring of 2003, Kennedy/Jenks and staff presented revised project alternatives that <br />expanded the geographical area of the program, in order to meet the goal of distributing <br />2,000 acre-feet per year of recycled water by 2010.
