Project prorde <br /> <br />Contracting Entity: Ci of Redwood Ci Parks Recreation & Communi <br /> <br /> <br />Title of Proposal: Communitv Inclusion Initiative <br /> <br />Briefty describe type of program and services that will be provided: <br />Our goal is to make aU of our recreation programs fully inclusive to people with disabilities.W e <br />want to aggressively market to those with disabilities to let them know that we support their <br />personal endeavors and welcome them in our community. In short, we wish to establish a <br />Community Inclusion Initiative. <br /> <br />We will do this by first hosting a Community Inclusion partnership Consortium that will open an <br />imperative line of communication between various agencies along the peninsula. This consortium <br />will take part in an intensive training program that will assist various agencies, including Redwood <br />City, on the critical steps to executing inclusion. Redwood City will then hire a Program <br />Coordinator whose main purpose will be to recruit and train volunteer mentors who will escort <br />participants with disabilities to and ftom recreation programs, provide any assistance participants <br />may need in the classes of their choice, and coordinate with the Community Inclusion partnership <br />Consortium by executing monthly phone conference meetings, bi-monthly in-person meetings and <br />overseeing the publication of a specialized Recreation Guide with the sole purpose of marketing <br />aU various programs along the peninsula to people with disabilities. <br /> <br />Total number of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families that will be <br />served by this proposal: 4500 Consumen Unspecified Family Memben <br /> <br />Describe briefty population that will be served in this proposal: <br />The population to be served will be children, teenagers, adults and seniors with disabilities <br />throughout San Mateo County. As of2003, San Mateo County had a population of700,OQO <br />people, with 108,000 of those people, ages 5+, reportedly having a disability (US Census <br />Bureau). This number continues to grow rapidly in our county. Golden Gate Regional Center of <br />San Mateo County has recorded 2532 clients in their agency that could directly benefit ftom an <br />inclusion program. This grant would serve people with a variety of special needs, specifically <br />those with developmental disabilities. <br /> <br />List all previous SCDD Grants Awarded by a) Fiscal Year(s), b) Grant Amount(s), and <br />c) Title oCProject(S), and current status ofprogramlgrant: N/A <br />
