Redwood City Downtown Business Group
P.o. Box 1266
Redwood City, Calüornia 94064

ATTACHMENT 3 7 A
Page 5

March 16, 2006

Ms. Susan Moeller
Redevelopment Director
City Hall-IO!7 Middlefield Road
Redwood City, California 94063

Dear Susan:

This letter will clarify and confinn the position of the .Redwood City Downtown Business Group and its Board of
Directors regarding the Wayf"mding Signs/Logo project During the Board of Directors meeting today, we came to
unanimous agreement on the following points:

(a) Based on the presentations during our March 7 general membership meeting and the vote that immediately
followed, we support the logo, directional arrows in white with black background, and fonts in the Keng's
Designs proposal. We also support the colors proposed in that presentation for the theater district, county
center, and parking signs used in the new wayfinding system.
(b) We believe that Keng's Designs and Catalyst could work together on the details of the rest of the sign
program, including the decision to use or not use the Caltrain logo, and the use of colors for signs other than
those listed above.
(c) We appreciate the time and energy both Catalyst and Keng's Designs put into their presentations, and we
suggest that Catalyst and Keng's Designs be given joint credit for developing the wayfinding sign program.
We have been advised that Keng's Designs will take no compensation from the City of Redwood City for its
work to date on eithe.r the wayfmding signs or the logo.
(d) We have also been advised that Keng's Designs will grant to the City of Redwood City a non-exclusive,
royalty-free use of the logo.
(e) We do not support the proposed ornamentation on the wayfmding poles because we believe it is too costly.
We think those monies would be better spent supporting the banner program proposed by Keng's Designs.

a;::e;;:=

Alice Louise
President
Redwood City Downtown Business Group

cc: Board of Directors, Ed Everett, Joel Patterson

Officers
Alice Louise, President
Arthur Murray Dance Studio

Board of Directors
Jennifer Ayre
Savvy Cellar Wines

Ron Jones
Quality Computer

Alpio Barbara, Vice President
Redwood General Tire

Frank Bartaldo
Bay Area Bank

Nina Kadera
1800DryClean

Judy Buchan, Secretary-Treasurer
Redhead Express Communications

Phillipe Bucher
Sl Regal Jewelers

Mike Kastrop
The Kastrop Group Inc., Architect')

Tony Gay
Redwood City Daily News

Patrick Sheridan
Patrick Sheridan, CP A
