6.1.D. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
October 22, 2018
SUBJECT
Purchase of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up Truck from Stewart Chevrolet
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve the purchase of a Chevrolet Silverado 350OHD Crew Cab pick-up
truck from Stewart Chevrolet.
BACKGROUND
In 2005, the Public Works Services Department (PWS) purchased a Ford Excursion on
behalf of the City's Police Department. This vehicle has been used as the primary mode
of transportation for the department's Police Boat, driving under the influence (DUI)
trailers, and other trailered equipment.
ANALYSIS
The 2005 Ford Excursion has served the Police Department beyond its useful life and is
now in need of replacement. Because the Excursion is no longer an option for
purchase, staff has conducted thorough analysis on comparable options for
replacement. Between comparisons of many different pick-up truck makes and models,
it was determined that the best fit for the City's Police Department would be the
Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD pick-up truck.
The fleet division solicited bids for a new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 350OHD. The
following three bids were received:
• Stewart Chevrolet (Colma, CA) $54,104.70
• My Chevrolet (Salinas, CA) $56,816.54
• Kuni Chevrolet (Sacramento, CA) $66,230.43
Stewart Chevrolet is the lowest bidder and therefor, staff is recommending the purchase
of the new Silverado 350OHD from Stewart Chevrolet in Colma, California. Furthermore,
staff has previously purchased a vehicle (2019 Chevrolet Suburban for Fire
Department) from Stewart Chevrolet in this fiscal year. This additional purchase from
Stewart Chevrolet would exceed the City Manager's signing authority of $60K
