City Manager <br /> <br /> September 23, 2002 <br /> <br /> Subject <br /> Agreement with the Redwood City School District and the City of Redwood City for After <br /> School Program Services <br /> <br /> Recommendation <br /> Execute the Agreement between the City of Redwood City and the Redwood City School <br /> District 2002/2003 <br /> <br /> Background <br /> The City of Redwood City in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the Sheriff's <br /> Office of San Mateo County and others, received Federal 21st Century After School Funding <br /> to operate After School Learning Centers at school sites in Redwood City and North Fair <br /> Oaks. Funding was awarded at the amount of $675,000 annually. We are now entering into <br /> the third year of grant funding. <br /> <br /> In addition to Federal 21st Century Funding the City of Redwood City has leveraged state <br /> and private resources to augment services provided students and their families. Services <br /> include after school tutoring, recreation and enrichment programming, life skills education, <br /> family field trips, open gyms and family education opportunities. Programs have been well <br /> received by the schools and community served. Program results have demonstrated <br /> improved academic achievement for students. <br /> <br /> ·. Each year, an agreement is made between the City and the School District for this program. <br /> The agreement details the scope of work that the City will provide at the After-School <br /> Program sites, and that the Redwood City School District will reimburse the City from the <br /> 21s~ Century Funds it receives. <br /> <br /> Fiscal Impact <br /> Funding for the program has been granted by the Federal 21st Century Program. <br /> <br /> <br />
