City Manager September 23, 2002 Subject Agreement with the Redwood City School District and the City of Redwood City for After School Program Services Recommendation Execute the Agreement between the City of Redwood City and the Redwood City School District 2002/2003 Background The City of Redwood City in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the Sheriff's Office of San Mateo County and others, received Federal 21st Century After School Funding to operate After School Learning Centers at school sites in Redwood City and North Fair Oaks. Funding was awarded at the amount of $675,000 annually. We are now entering into the third year of grant funding. In addition to Federal 21st Century Funding the City of Redwood City has leveraged state and private resources to augment services provided students and their families. Services include after school tutoring, recreation and enrichment programming, life skills education, family field trips, open gyms and family education opportunities. Programs have been well received by the schools and community served. Program results have demonstrated improved academic achievement for students. ·. Each year, an agreement is made between the City and the School District for this program. The agreement details the scope of work that the City will provide at the After-School Program sites, and that the Redwood City School District will reimburse the City from the 21s~ Century Funds it receives. Fiscal Impact Funding for the program has been granted by the Federal 21st Century Program.
