Since 1976, the City has tried
multiple times to purchase the property back from the State, even offering a relocation of the facility in
exchange for the site.
In 2015, City staff and California Military Department (CMD) staff met to discuss the City's interest in
purchase or use of the Armory. The CMD agreed to lease the property at that time. Since August 1, 2015,
the City has been leasing the National Guard Armory for additional recreational activity space. In 2016,
staff met with local military personnel regarding improvements required per the lease agreement and
reiterated the City's interest in purchasing the property. Staff learned the State was looking at ways to
raise funds to remodel some facilities, including selling certain properties deemed not ideal for future
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcitV.org
471
