<br /> 6.1F <br /> Page 1 <br /> April 24, 2006 <br /> Subject <br /> Quarterly Information Item to Council regarding initial appointments above first step. <br /> Recommendation <br /> It is recommended Council accept the report regarding a Quarterly Information Item from <br /> the Human Resources Director to Council. <br /> Background <br /> On January 9, 2006. City Council approved Ordinance No. 2289. approving an amendment <br /> to Section 23.31 of the Municipal Code allowing administrative initial appointments at any <br /> step within a range (for salary ranges expressed in steps) or at any rate between the <br /> minimum of a salary range (for salary ranges not expressed in steps). At the time, it was <br /> requested that staff keep Council informed on a regular basis of how many new employees <br /> are hired above first step. Therefore, the Director of Human Resources will provide this <br /> information to Council as a quarterly Information Item. This report will include the total <br /> number of employees hired for the preceding quarter and the total number of those <br /> employees hired who were appointed above the bottom of the salary range. <br /> Alternative <br /> The alternative would be to not provide Council with a quarterly Information Item regarding <br /> the number of new employees hired above first step. <br /> Fiscal Impact <br /> No fiscal impact <br /> 6sJ- ~ ~- <br /> Bob Bell .
