Hamilton Woods stated that residents should have a say in the planting of trees in front of their <br /> houses. He requested that the City visit the issue and change the policy from mandatory to <br /> voluntary. <br /> <br /> Janet Borgens stated she was speaking in rebuttal to an article in a local newspaper concerning <br /> the Redwood City Fire Department. She further stated she was clarifying various statements <br /> made by Council Member Jordan. <br /> <br /> Rudy Luca stated his concern with a tree planting issue in front of his house. He inquired as to <br /> a tree planting dedication for Jack Anthony. Vice Mayor Claire stated the Native Daughters of <br /> the Golden West do the tree planting each year on Arbor Day. <br /> <br /> Pete Hughes, representing the Police Athletic League, spoke of the Northern California Boxing <br /> Championships in Redwood City the weekend of April 28 and 29 at 2:00 p.m. The location is <br /> the Way to Go building on Broadway. <br /> <br /> Pastor Marie Cantwell stated that National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 3. She stated the <br /> San Mateo County Government chambers would be the location for prayer for public officials <br /> and the community. <br /> <br /> Mike Pacelli representing the Chamber of Commerce, who hosted the 32"d Annual Progress <br /> Seminar where over 250 people participated. The panel discussions included water, power, <br /> regional transportation, high-density housing, shortages of nurses and doctors, leadership <br /> diversity and how local government plans for economic change. He further stated the Seminar <br /> promotes cooperative planning by business, government and community leaders. Upcoming <br /> activities include the Chamber, Fabbro's and Bay Area Maintenance hosting a business <br /> connection on April 25, the Rathman Benefit Golf Tournament on May 14 at Stanford Golf <br /> Course, a business connection mixer hosted by Nimbus Design Group on May 16, and Good <br /> Morning Redwood City at the Sequoia Club on May 30. For more information call 364-1722. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Claire stated the City Attorney has informed the Council that the City does not <br /> have jurisdiction over the Peninsula Marina situation and asked that the City Attorney make a <br /> statement prior to speakers on the subject. <br /> <br /> City Attorney Schricker stated that it is a landlord/tenant dispute and the State law governs <br /> that relationship and the remedies of the parties must be pursued under State law. <br /> <br /> Chris Kohl stated she was speaking because she is a homeowner being evicted from Peninsula <br /> Marina. She further stated that the economic boom has artificially inflated costs and that she <br /> works in the non-profit sector where there are no corresponding salaries.
