The <br />Ordinance helps protect a part of local history for all citizens to enjoy today <br />and in future generations. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />How does a property or properties achieve landmark or historic district <br />designation? <br /> <br />a. Exemplifies or reflects special elements of the City's Cultural, <br />aesthetic, or architectural history; or <br />b. Identifies with persons or events significant in local, state, or national <br />history; or <br />c. Embodies distinctive characteristics of a style, type, period, or method <br />of construction, or is a valuable example of the use of indigenous <br />materials or craftsmanship; or <br />d. Representative of the notable work of a builder, designer, or architect. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />What is the effect of Historic Landmark or Historic District Designation? <br /> <br />The Historic Preservation Ordinance has no effect unless the structure is <br />to be demolished or the exterior altered. A careful review of demolition <br />permit applications will be made so that historic structures will not be <br />unnecessarily lost. Approval for projects involving demolition or exterior <br />alteration will be required from the Planning Commission or City Council, <br />upon appeal. A decision on any proposed work is based primarily upon <br />the following criteria: ' <br /> <br />a. In the case of an historic landmark, the proposed work would not <br />detrimentally affect any exterior architectural feature or; <br />b. In the case of a property located within a historic district, proposed <br />work conforms to the prescriptive standards as adopted by the <br />Planning Commission and does not adversely affect the character of <br />the district, or <br />c.
