"Information for <br />property owners" document that discussing the purpose of Redwood City historic <br />pre$ervation on;Jin;¡¡nçe, how prope.rtiesachieve. historic designation, the effects of such <br />designation and the benefits was mailed to every property owner and resident within the <br />proposed historic district and beyond. Two well attended property owners meetings <br />followed. <br /> <br />What waS explained was the permit approval process and how property owners would <br />be affected by this designation. Also explained was historic designation has no affect on <br />what is done with the propE?rty untE?$s applyingfQrapE?nTIitfor w<;>rkOl'lthestructure. or <br />for demolition permit, and any work should be in keeping with the architectural character <br />of the building. The proposed historic district designation would carry with it certain <br />Þenefit~ fpr cpntriþ.Iting ~tn.Jçtvre§, me¡¡:¡ning thp~e ~tnJçt.lre~ within the þp~md¡¡:¡rje~ pf <br />the proposed district that are considered to have historic significance. The benefits <br />being the use of the State Historic Building Code, free design consultation support from <br />the City, revi~liZÇltion along a con$i$ìent hi$torical theme and eligit;>Uity for prQperty tax <br />relief via Mills Act Agreements. Non-contributing buildings, buildings within the <br />boundaries of the proposed district, that are not considered to be historic would be <br />cover~c;i under the Hj~toric Pr~$erv,atìpn Qrdin,anc~, but th~re wp!.Jld b~ np hi$tpriç <br />preservation benefits available for these properties. <br /> <br />The pr9PQ$~ Me~~ym~ di$~rjç;t cQn.m,in$ $evef\ty seven. Pfppertie§; fifty twp ~rø <br />considered to have historic significance, but the remaining twenty five are considered not <br />to have historic significance. <br /> <br />What sets this area apart from others in Redwood City is the fact that it was the first and <br />i9 nQw the I~!)t Ve$tige of an int~ct"Re$iqentiaJ W9fkingman's Neighborhood." <br /> <br />Sheila McElroy, Principal of Circa Historic Property Development, stated what is called <br />the character defining features of a district are the personality of the district. <br /> <br />Pagt'! 1 of 10 <br />
