6.1G
Page 1

REPORT

To the Honorable Mayor and Qity Council
Frorn thØ City M~rtä:gër

May 8, 2006

Subject
Agreement with Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos and Rudy, LLP ("Hanson Bridgett")
for legal services in regards to Century Theater US 101 site.

Recommendation
Approve and Authorize the City Manager to Execute the Agreement between the City of
Redwood City and Hanson Bridgett, for an amount not to exceed $50,000.

Background
Consideration is being given to the old Century Theater site east of US 101. The City
needs special legal expertise to assist in structuring a potential real estate agreement
regarding this site.

The "Not-To-Exceed" cost figure is an estimate for legal services for the first three
months. At the end of that time period, City Staff will have a better estimate for future
costs to culminate an agreement.

Alternative
This work could be done by the City Attorney's office, but given their small staff they
would have to cut back on all their day to day support of city departments.

Fiscal Impact
The estimate for the first three months is $50,000. At the end of that time if an agreement is
possible we will be better able to estimate future costs. The City has not budgeted for these
costs and so this one time costs will have to come from general fund reserves. Economic
Development is one of the eight areas where Council wished to see FY06-07 budget
option~.~,. /
// / // ¡J/
(/ . / l 1/ {,.{I/. ,,/
...
