<br />REPORT <br /> <br />7A <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />To the Honorable M~yör and Clty C-øuncil <br />Prom the City, Manager <br /> <br />May 8,2006 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Solid Waste and Recycling Services <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and the City Council: <br /> <br />As requested by Council at the March 27, 2006 Council meeting, Bob Hilton from Hilton <br />Farnkopf & Hobson, the firm engaged by the South Bayside Waste Management Authority <br />(SBWMA) to lead the preparation of the request for proposal for solid waste and recycling <br />services, will provide the Council with an overview of the process that the SBWMA has <br />embarked upon obtaining competitive proposals for these services. Since the current <br />franchise agreements between member entities and Allied Waste Industries expire on <br />December 31,2010, the SBWMA Board voted unanimously to initiate the process to obtain <br />competitive proposals for solid waste collection and recycling services. The SBWMA, <br />which contracts with Allied for the operating of the transfer station and recycJery, has also <br />decided to obtain competitive proposals for the operation of these facilities as the existing <br />contracts also expire on December 31,2010, <br /> <br />Mr. Hilton will provide an overview of the proposed competitive process and actions that <br />have taken place to date.
