<br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS: <br />A. Proclamation: California Youth of the Year - Elizabeth Quintero <br /> Mayor Pierce read the proclamation honoring Ms. Quintero for her achievements. <br /> Sarah Rosendahl presented Ms. Quintero with a proclamation from Senator Joe <br /> Simitian and Assemblymember Ira Ruskin. Ms. Quintero thanked the City <br /> Council, the community, and the Boys and Girls Club while explaining her <br /> interests and goals for the future. <br />B. Proclamation: 2006 Water Awareness Month <br /> Mayor Pierce read the Water Awareness Month proclamation and presented <br /> proclamations to the winners of the K_8th grade poster contest. She stated the <br /> City is dependent on the Hetch Hetchy water system as it is our sole source of <br /> water meaning we need to do all we can to make sure we preserve and use it <br /> wisely. <br />C. Presentation: Results of PACT and Community Builders Survey <br /> Assistant to the City Manager Gonzalez gave a summary of results of a survey <br /> that was offered online to approximately 300 people with the goal of determining <br /> the impact of the programs on the participants, types of community activities <br /> people get involved with, and the willingness of people to join together to <br /> determine next steps for community building for Redwood City. A PowerPoint <br /> presentation was used and on file. <br /> Announcements made were that a reunion will be held on June 7 with more <br /> information to follow and that May 9 is the next charter meeting to discuss a Fall <br /> program of some sort. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY COUNCIU <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />Sandy Paoli stated that at this time the CERT Program set to occur on September 20, <br />23 and 30, 2006 is now full. She presented registration forms to Council Members <br />because she has reserved two spots should someone wish to attend. She further <br />explained to the audience the program content which involves the community learning <br />to take care of itself in the event of disaster. <br />John Seybert, Planning Commission Chair, stated that on May 2, the Planning <br />Commission unanimously approved the 8 guiding principles for the General Plan. He <br />thanked the members of the community for providing hours of input through a series <br />of workshops which served as the background for the principles. He further thanked <br />staff, fellow Planning Commissioners, and the General Plan subcommittee that <br />includes himself, Mayor Pierce, Vice Mayor Foust, Council Member Howard, Vice <br />Chair Cronin and Commissioner Paulson for the hard work and wisdom.
