<br /> 5.18 <br /> Page 1 <br />f(~P>()f?T <br />May 22, 2006 <br />Subject <br />Award of Contract - Red Morton Community Park Gardener Shed Replacement Project <br />Recommendation <br />Approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for Red Morton Community <br />Park Gardener Shed. Replacement Project to the lowest responsible bidder, T. <br />Campbell Construction of Manteca, California, for their low bid of $165,943.00. <br />Background <br />The Gardener Shed is located at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue in the City of Redwood City, <br />and is maintained by the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department <br />(PRCS). <br />The existing gardener shed used to be a trash enclosure, and was modified in 1976 to <br />be used as the PRCS gardener shed storage for tools and materials. The existing <br />gardener shed is deteriorating; the roof leaks, and many service calls have been <br />reported due to rodent infestation. Therefore, staff recommends that the facility <br />undergo a major reconstruction. <br />The scope of the work for this project consists of tree and plant protection; installation <br />of temporary project security fence; clearing; demolition and removal of existing <br />structures; site preparation and grading; concrete work; structural and miscellaneous <br />steel work; furnishing and installation of prefabricated galvanized steel building and <br />related work; electrical work; restoration of existing lawn or other improvements <br />removed or damaged; dust alleviation and control; storm water pollution prevention, and <br />daily site cleanup and other incidental work. <br />On April 5, 2006, a bid opening was held. The three (3) bids received for the Red <br />Morton Community Park Gardener Shed Replacement Project are summarized below: <br /> I <br /> ! <br />Rank Contractor Amount <br />1. T. Campbell Construction was 38% higher than the Engineer's Estimate <br />of $120,000.00.
