Page 1 <br /> I <br /> J To the Honorable Mayor and City councill <br /> I <br /> ! ___.____From the~ Managerl <br /> May 22, 2006 <br /> Subject <br /> Final Acceptance - Community Activities Building Renovation <br /> Recommendation <br /> Accept the Community Activities Building, and authorize the release of bonds and <br /> retention. <br /> Background <br /> The Community Activities Building (CAB) is located at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue in the <br /> City of Redwood City, and is maintained by the Parks, Recreation, and Community <br /> Services Department (PRCS). The CAB was built in 1970, and over the years, has <br /> received minor renovations. <br /> On November 8, 2004, the City Council awarded this contract to Solid Builders of <br /> Colma, California, for their low bid of $219,646. The renovation consisted of clearing <br /> and demolition of existing interior finishes and other appurtenances; installation of new <br /> building interior finishes such as floor tiles and bases, carpet, wall painting, wall <br /> covering; removal and installation of new doors and frames, ceiling tiles, wall tiles, toilet <br /> fixtu res and accessories, toilet partitions, lighting fixtures, signage, and other <br /> incidentals; painting work; and hazardous materials/asbestos abatement. Also, the <br /> restrooms were renovated to comply with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) <br /> Standards. <br /> All work was completed in conformance with the Contract Documents, and to the <br /> satisfaction of Engineering & Construction Services. There were five change orders <br /> totaling $74,141.41, due to unforeseen conditions, increasing the contract amount to <br /> $293,787.41. On January 9, 2006, the City Council approved one of these change <br /> orders in the amount of $60,000 for the floor replacement. <br /> Alternative <br /> Do not accept the Community Activities Building Renovation, which would be contrary to <br /> prior Council action. <br /> Fiscal Impacts <br /> Funds in the amount of $294,000 for this project were allocated in the FY 2004-2005 <br /> Capital Improvements Program, Community Activities Building Renovation and Carpet <br /> ~;;;;;:~;f/a~ ~ <br /> M.
