These demands in turn will cause increased air <br />pollution at a time when we are all supposed to be decreasing the use of fossil fuels, as well as the need for <br />more water, which we do not have. As an example of just current traffic problems, a few weeks ago my <br />boyfriend and I were driving south on 101 on the way to San Carlos and there was a huge line of cars, almost <br />stopped, waiting to get off the freeway at an exit --about 2-3 blocks in length ON THE FREEWAY --and it was <br />not even rush hour. It was a weekend afternoon. So, if you are going to pretend that all these new people will <br />not be using cars, you are mistaken. <br />Furthermore, in the letter sent to you from the Sierra Club, they point out some significant flaws in the Draft <br />EIR which could underestimate the traffic impacts and housing demand by a very large margin. <br />This site is much better suited for light industrial development, which would diversify job opportunities for <br />local citizens and cause much less traffic and congestion. For these reasons, I urge you to reject a General Plan <br />Amendment to allow Harbor View, and only consider projects that conform to the existing General Plan and <br />Zoning regulations. The current plan was carefully thought out to support in -fill development along transit <br />corridors, allow for some new office space in the downtown area and maintain a decent quality of life for the <br />people who live here. <br />Thank you for your consideration of my remarks. <br />Respectfully, <br />Loretta Dipboye <br />(member, Redwood City Neighbors United) <br />
