5. SPECIAL ORDERS: <br />A. Proclamation: National Historic Preservation Month <br />Mayor Pierce read the proclamation and introduced Ken Rolandelli who stated <br />the various activities such as the historic walking tour on Sunday, May 7 and a <br />field trip for 7 th graders in the Redwood City School District to three downtown <br />buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The walking tour will <br />begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Lathrop House at 627 Hamilton Street, lasting <br />1 -1/2 hrs. and include most of Redwood City's historic commercial buildings as <br />well as some residential properties. <br />B. Proclamation: TV Turnoff Week — Mayor Pierce read the proclamation and <br />Kathleen Barco, of Kaiser Permanente, explained the 12 annual observance to <br />occur the week of April 24 -30, 2006. She stated that the Healthy Community <br />Collaborative is a group of healthcare organizations working toward keeping San <br />Mateo County healthy and viable. She encouraged researching on the internet <br />for great ideas on how to lessen television viewing for a week. <br />C. Proclamation: Honoring Anne Vaughan with the Ursula Ferguson Award for <br />Outstanding Volunteer Service — Mayor Pierce stated that Ursula Ferguson was <br />a longtime volunteer of the library, dedicating years and enthusiasm with a spirit <br />that energized the library for many years. Mayor Pierce called Anne Vaughn to <br />the podium with Library Board Chair Zachary Sweeney read the proclamation. <br />Ms. Vaughn thanked everyone for the honor. <br />D. Presentation: One Community — One Book — Dave Genesy, Library Director, <br />encouraged the community to read the book and pass it along to family, friends <br />and neighbors, then asking them what they thought about it. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY COUNCIU <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />M/S Hartnett/Ira to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by <br />title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items. The motion <br />passed by a unanimous roll call vote. <br />Jeri Joseph, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, announced the annual Pet Parade <br />on Saturday, April 29 at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue behind the Community Activities <br />Building (CAB). There will be various activities available at the event that begins at <br />noon, with registration at 11:30 a.m. <br />Tom Passanisi, Community Development Services Manager, announcement <br />upcoming Planning Commission meetings to discuss the General Plan. The first <br />meeting is scheduled for May 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber where discussion <br />and consideration of the guiding principles for the General Plan will occur. This <br />meeting will be televised. Should the Planning Commission adopt the guiding <br />principles, a second meeting will be held on May 16 at which storytelling and <br />development of a vision for the city will be scheduled.
