throughout San Mateo County with 60,000 volunteers creating over $21M <br />worth of value for low income homeowners and other non - profits. <br />Melissa Platte, Executive Director of the Mental Health Association, stated <br />that not only does the HHCC support the agencies but through dialogue <br />and conversation, they are pushed to do a better job and make better <br />partners in the community through that effort. She stated that she was <br />endorsing the acquisition of Cedar Street that is envisioned to become a <br />supportive housing program for individuals who experience mental illness <br />and are extremely low income. <br />Kenneth Alfred Armand stated that the Mental Health Association is <br />definitely saving lives and he has full access to assistance with most needs, <br />thanking everyone involved. <br />Wayne L. Dowling stated that he is in the mental health system for several <br />years and involved in the Community Friendship program. He commended <br />the staff members and stated that it his belief that the mental health <br />program in San Mateo County is probably the most outstanding in the <br />country. He stated that there is a long way go and a need for more houses. <br />Chris Coppola, Deputy Director of Mental Health for San Mateo County, <br />thanked Council for considering the Cedar Street project stating that it is <br />difficult to understand the importance of having a home until you do not <br />have one. She stated that she is allowed to appreciate the courage of those <br />with mental illness and how hard it is to do those things that we consider <br />quite naturally. <br />Kevin Bondonno accepted all the acknowledgement and recommended <br />that the four recommendations move forward <br />M/S Howard /Ira to close the public hearing. The motion passed by a <br />unanimous voice vote. <br />M/S Foust/Ira to adopt recommendation No. 1. The motion passed by a <br />unanimous roll call vote. <br />Council Member Aguirre left the dais due to a conflict in serving on boards <br />of agencies involved in the topic. <br />M/S Bain /Foust to reconsider the previous motion.
