with the 7-013 maps, District 7 would be vacant and up for election in 2020, whereas with the 7-021 maps,
District 7 would be represented by Councilmember Reddy and not up for election until 2022.
I've lived in Redwood City for 20 years. My kids attended Roy Cloud and then North Star Academy, then
Sequoia High School. I believe that the Canyon and Farm Hill neighborhoods are distinct enough from the res.
of Redwood City that, much like Redwood Shores, they deserve to have a representative from that area.
Most residents would say that in the area north of Jefferson, Alameda de las Pulgas is a fairly reasonable
dividing line between the "hills" and the "flatland." In the 7-021 maps, the boundary between Districts 6 and 7
takes an odd little jog eastward at Hopkins to include a small chunk of the area east of Alameda de las Pulgas
in District 7 -- apparently for no other reason than to include Councilmember Reddy's house in District 7. This
makes no sense.
Please choose one of the variations of Map 7-013 and allow District 7 to elect a local councilmember in 2020.
Thank you for your consideration of these comments.
Alice Kaufman
