As mentioned previously in writing and at the Redwood Shores Community Association annual meeting, the desire is for Redwood Shores to be one district. With the 2010 Census Data, Redwood Shores is population -balanced by itself, honors natural and physical geographic boundaries, honors both the Belmont -Redwood Shores school district boundaries, and the Carlmont High School district boundary, and the youth sports leagues where the children and families participate in. For these reasons and others, RSCA supports maps 13d and 21c. In Monday's Council packet, there are two additional maps, 13e and 13f which add the Bair Island neighborhoods to Redwood Shores. There are several reasons that we do not support these two maps. The families and children of this neighborhood do not attend schools in the Belmont -Redwood Shores School District, they do not participate in the youth sports leagues that Shores residents participate in, and do not have the same issues that the Shores face. In addition, Redwood Shores is already the largest (by population) District with 11,359. Map 13d's smallest population district is District 5 with 10,685 residents, which represents a difference of 6.3%. Map 21c's smallest population district is District 7 at 10,742 which is a 5.7% difference. By increasing the population of the Redwood Shores District in maps 13e and 13f, the difference between the largest District and the smallest increases significantly. In Map 13e, District 1 will have 11,772 residents, and the smallest district Auld be District 5 with 10,685 residents - a 10.2% difference. In Map 13f, District 7 would be the smallest at 10,745 esidents - a 9.6% difference with District 1. In summary, Redwood Shores Community Association reiterates its preference that Redwood Shores be kept as one district by itself. Maps 13d and 21c achieve this goal.
