In the private industry we always strive to adopt best practices from other companies and there is <br />no time to worry about perfection, but rather that we're moving in the right direction. <br />I think much could be learned by Burlingame and the other suggestion in the above document such as tailoring <br />FAR ratios to typical house sizes. This would eliminate much of the current discourse we see in the rebuilds <br />that are maximized for profit or size. Promoting the retention of architectural significant structure/character <br />that is discussed. <br />Lastly, my husband and I are greatly sadden and still very upset at the very large ADU over detached garage <br />that will going up directly behind our house. That tall ADU will impact so many of our neighbors who are all <br />singled storied homes and all the neighbors I talked to are upset. When I was told by city staff that nothing <br />could be done as Redwood City had adopted the one size fits all 28 foot height limit on second storied ADU's <br />over garages and was told this was state law. Only to find it wasn't state law and that cities all around us had <br />done more to protect the character of their neighborhoods by lowering this height limit or not allow 2"d stories <br />at all. This just sickened my husband and I. We are still upset to know how the city did so little to help us as <br />residents. More needs to be done (and quickly too) to protect Redwood City residents from some of our <br />current quickly adopted ordinances - especially around 2"d storied ADU's over detached garages. <br />Best Regards, <br />Janet and Rob <br />i <br />
