CLK-Pamela Aguilar
-Tom: Ron Susek <rsusek@gmail.com>
4ent: Monday, March 11, 2019 1:29 PM
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Urgent Appeal for Adoption of More Reasonable Development Guidelines
Attachments: Strategies for Preserving Neighborhoods in R1 and RH (1).pdf
Dear Council Members,
I am troubled by the unrelenting attack on and destruction of my beloved Mount Carmel neighborhood. It is
the neighborhood's notable architecture, modest sized, "affordable" homes and leafy character of the
neighborhood that attracted me and many of my neighbors to Redwood City. Yet over the last several years the
neighborhood has seen the unrelenting attack and the demolition of one charming home after another only to
have them replaced by oversized monster homes that do not fit the character or spirit of our
neighborhood. While Mount Carmel may be the current hot target for redevelopment and monster home
construction, it certainly won't be the last.
I received the attached document from my neighborhood association and see it as just the kind of common sense
approach we need to preserve what is is so special about Redwood City. While it is unreasonable to plan for or
to expect no growth or development, the current state of uncontrolled development is unacceptable and screams
out for attention along the lines of the attached proposal. I encourage the Council to take action now.
Thank you for your service to the city and for your attention to this important, time -sensitive matter.
Sincerely,
Ron Susek
230 Fulton Street
Redwood City, CA 94062
rsusekna,¢mail.com
