Information Technology services sold to the City of Burlingame

RecommendatJon
Authorize the City Manager to execute the second amendment in the amount of $404,424
for software development and desktop support services sold to the City of Burlingame.

Background
Information Technology receives approximately 27% of its operating budget from services
sold to external clients. The City of Burlingame accounts for 67% of external client
revenues. Redwood City has been providing IT support for the City of Burlingame since
1987. For FY 2005/06 Burlingame purchased 3,425 hours of Redwood City IT services,
the equivalent of approximately two (2) full time employees (FTE). Burlingame wishes to
purchase the same number of hours for FY 2006/07. One Redwood City employee is
located full-time at the City of Burlingame doing desktop and network support. The
remaining hours purchased are used to provide software support to Burlingame's financial
system, which is the same platform as Redwood City's. The proposed hourly rate for FY
2006/07 is $118.08 per hour.

Alternative
Terminate our IT support relationship with the City of Burlingame, thus lowering revenues
by approximately $405,000 for FY 2006/07. This will require Redwood City to terminate a
minimum of two employees unless an equivalent number of hours are sold elsewhere.

Fiscal Impact
Entering into the contract with the City of Burlingame to sell them 3,425 hours of IT
services will result i $404A24 of revenues, funding at least two positions.
