3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Ian Bain, Council Member <br />4. INVOCATION - Rabbi Nathanial Ezray, Temple Beth Jacob <br />5. SPECIAL ORDERS: <br />Presentation: PACT Graduation <br />Mayor Pierce and Council Member Ira thanked and presented the certificates to the <br />graduates. <br />Presentation: Poetry Contest Winners <br />Mayor Pierce and Council Member Ira acknowledged the Poetry Contest Winners for <br />their achievement. <br />Proclamation: Jim Bewley — Retirement <br />Mayor Pierce, Council Member Ira and PWS Director Ingram acknowledged Jim <br />Bewley and presented him with a proclamation for his years of service with SBSA. <br />Proclamation: Tree City, U.S.A. <br />PWS Superintendent Mann stated the department's pride in receiving the award and <br />asked Urban Forester John Melvin to present the plaque and a flag to Mayor Pierce. <br />6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - . CITY COUNCIL/ <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />M/S Howard /Bain to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by <br />title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items with item <br />6.11 being removed for separate consideration and a correction to Item 9.13 of the <br />May 22 minutes. The motion passed by a unanimous roll call vote by those <br />present with Council Member Aguirre and Vice Mayor Foust absent. <br />Janet Borgens stated that after much collaboration and hard work, together with the <br />San Ramon Fire District, the City will have the first Community Emergency Response <br />train the trainers session for the weekend of June 10 and 11. The training will then be <br />brought back to the community to work with the Fire Department and train our local <br />neighborhoods. <br />Robert Slusser, representing the Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA), stated <br />regrets that PCA will not be conducting the annual Independence Day fireworks <br />display at the Port of Redwood City this year. He stated that PCA has been the <br />primary sponsor of the event for many years and the fireworks display has been a <br />longstanding tradition in Redwood City. While disappointing, he stated that the PCA is <br />being proactive in recognizing the issues that affect the public safety and enjoyment of <br />the show. He cited changes due to relocation of the launch site several years ago. He <br />stressed that PCA is postponing the fireworks display, not eliminating it in order to <br />address the challenging activities associated with producing this public event.
