SPECIAL ORDERS - July is Parks and Recreation Month <br /> <br />Mayor Pierce presented PRCS Superintendent Beth with a proclamation and thanked <br />the Department for all that it provides to the community. Superintendent Beth stated <br />the various activities and programs coming up. <br /> <br />5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR - CITY COUNCIU <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br /> <br />M/S Aguirre/Foust to waive reading of the Consent Calendar except the ordinances by <br />title, adopt the resolutions and the ordinances, and approve other items. Council <br />Member Hartnett removed Item 5.2.C. for separate consideration. The motion <br />passed by a unanimous roll call vote by those present with Council Member <br />Hartnett absent. <br /> <br />Janet Borgens, speaking on behalf of a group of individuals led by Steve Penna, <br />stated that they are seeking to memorialize one of Redwood City's finest citizens, Pete <br />Uccelli. She stated that the group is aware that Mayor Pierce has appointed a <br />subcommittee to develop criteria and guidelines for naming public places. Courthouse <br />Plaza is one such site that could be named Uccelli Square, and there are other <br />possibilities as well. She further stated that there is history to support the request <br />citing examples such as Red Morton Cornrnunity Center, Stafford Park, and many <br />others. This legacy would be left for all to enjoy and would be an appropriate <br />acknowledgernent for Pete Uccelli. <br /> <br />John Harp, Police Officers Association President, stated he was present to deliver <br />results of the Council's last and final offer. He further read a statement that said 75 <br />members voted unanimously to reject the City's last and final contract offer. He stated <br />that the officers perform above average work and are expected to receive below <br />average compensation and that is why the talks have stalled. <br /> <br />5.1 Section - Motions - <br /> <br />A. Approve the Special City Council rneeting minutes of June 19, 2006 as submitted <br />MINUTE ORDER 06-129 <br />B. Peninsula Celebration Association's 6th Annual Fourth of July Celebration, 2006 <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />The City Council authorize execution of a letter permit for the Fourth of July <br />Celebration sponsored by the Peninsula Celebration Association and the Car <br />Show sponsored by the Downtown Business Group.
