<br />88 <br /> <br />parking lot will be re-striped and new parking equipment installed and operational hyage 5 <br />the end of June. A new cutting-edge Downtown Parking Management Plan was <br />adopted by the City Council with the strong support of the Downtown Business Group. <br />New parking requirements were also approved as part of the "just enough" parking <br />and "park-once and walk" strategy outlined in the Plan. An agreement with the County <br />of San Mateo for the use of their parking garage at Veteran's and Middlefield was <br />executed and free public parking will be available on weekends (Friday night through <br />Sunday evening) and for special events on week nights. An agreement with Sam Trans <br />for a similar arrangement for free public parking in the garage under Sequoia Station <br />will be presented to the Council for consideration in July, 2006. A marketing firm is <br />preparing informational materials to communicate the new parking program to <br />residents, businesses and visitors. <br /> <br />2. Retail/Cinema Comolex. The first 2 businesses opened in the complex - Cost <br />Plus World Markets and the San Mateo Credit Union. Century Theatres is expected to <br />open in late July, 2006. Shoe Pavilion opens the end of June. The majority of the <br />restaurants on Theatre Way are expected to be open by the end of Septernber, 2006. <br />Leasing efforts continue on some of the Broadway spaces, as well as the restaurant <br />space at Winslow and Middlefield. <br /> <br />3. Streetscaoe Imorovements. The streetscape improvements around the <br />cinema site and on Broadway between Middlefield and Hamilton, including <br />MiddlefieldlTheatre Way between Broadway and Winslow are scheduled to be <br />complete the end of June. New signals have been installed at Veteran's and <br />Middlefield, and will be installed at Jefferson and Broadway as part of the completion <br />of the streetscape improvements on Broadway. Jefferson Ave. has been re-striped for <br />two-way traffic with a center turn lane and for diagonal parking as part of the "road..cJiet" <br />improvements approved by Council this current fiscal year. Corresponding <br />modifications to the signalization at Middlefield and Jefferson, as well as some lane re- <br />configurations on Middlefield are currently being completed. <br /> <br />4. Courtþouse $auare and~e Restoration Protects. Contracts were <br />executed and construction began on both the Façade Restoration Project and the <br />Square in FY 2005/06. The Façade is currently 75-80% restored. The square is <br />approximately 25% cornplete. Both projects are scheduled for completion in late <br />September/ea fly October. <br /> <br />5. Downtown Precise Plan. The public approval process for the Downtown <br />Precise Plan (DPP) will occur in FY 2006/07. Council directed staff and the consultant <br />to proceed with the DPP assuming eight, ten and twelve story options. The draft DPP <br />has been completed and reviewed by staff. The consultant is finalizing the <br />adrninistrative draft for the public hearing process based upon staff comments. <br />Consultants have been retained for the environmental impact report (EIR), the traffic <br />analysis and the infrastructure analysis. It is anticipated that the public hearing <br />process for consideration of both the EIR and the Precise Plan will begin in late <br />September. Consideration by the City Council is anticipated in January, 2007 to avoid <br />conflicts with the busy holiday season. <br /> <br />1:2006 STAFF REPORTS AND AGREEMENTS_O6-2006_Budget <br /> <br />2 <br />
