') ° I 1 .1 P, L <br />RESOLUTION NO. 13897 <br />RESOLUTION DECLARING THAT AIRCRAFT NOISE IMPACTS AND <br />MITIGATIONS ARE MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS THAT MUST <br />BE CONSIDERED IN ALL ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES OF ANY RUNWAY <br />RECONFIGURATIONS PLAN AT SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL <br />AIRPORT <br />WHEREAS, San Francisco International Airport is located in San Mateo County, <br />is the county's largest single employer and provides significant economical vitality to the <br />region; and <br />WHEREAS, FAA traffic routing patterns may place flight paths over the City of <br />Redwood City; and <br />WHEREAS, air traffic into and out of San Francisco International Airport causes <br />noise that impacts the environment and quality of life in Redwood City; and <br />WHEREAS, the quality of life in Redwood City is adversely impacted day and <br />night from the converging noise from large streams of aircraft arrivals from throughout <br />the world; and <br />WHEREAS, aircraft noise impacts are and must be considered a significant <br />environmental issue to be evaluated in all environmental analyses; and <br />WHEREAS, a runway reconfiguration at San Francisco International Airport <br />could have a major effect on aircraft noise in San Mateo County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Airport Roundtable Community has submitted a letter to Hillary <br />Gitelman, Environmental Review Office, City and County of San Francisco, dated <br />September 3,1999, that contains comments on a Notice of Preparation (NOP) to prepare a <br />Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) to evaluate proposed runway <br />reconfigurations for San Francisco International Airport (attached hereto); and <br />WHEREAS, the term "environment" is defined in section 21060.5 of the Public <br />Resources Code, al "...physical conditions which exist within the area that will be <br />affected by a proposed project, including land, air, water, minerals, flora, fauna, noise, <br />objects of historic or aesthetic significance" <br />5/0/00 <br />Sh/rwc /council/reso <br />Reso -885 <br />FXS /fs <br />
