<br />~~ <br /> <br />DES:yc:12/l3/74 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />0 R DIN A N C E <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />1619 <br /> <br />JAN 6 <br /> <br />1975 <br /> <br />--------- <br /> <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23.7 OF THE CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO SELECTION OF APPOINTEES <br />IN THE COMPETITIVE SERVICE <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. <br /> <br />Section 23.7 of the Code of the City of Redwood <br /> <br />City is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />"Section 23.7 <br /> <br />Persons appointed to the competitive <br /> <br />service shall be selected from applicants on eligible lists <br /> <br />and applicants shall be placed on such eligible lists in <br /> <br />order of their relative merit as determined by competitive <br /> <br />examinations. <br /> <br />Appointments to positions in the competitive <br /> <br />service shall be made from the first three applicants on <br /> <br />the eligible lists who are ready and willing to accept the <br /> <br />position offered. <br /> <br />Notwithstanding the foregoing, any person <br /> <br />who has successfully completed a training program established <br /> <br />by the City to provide affirmatively equal employment oppor- <br /> <br />tunities for members of races, nationalities, ethnic or <br /> <br />cultural groups, who have been denied historically in the <br /> <br />United States such opportunities because of such race, <br /> <br />nationality, or ethnic or cultural background, shall be <br /> <br />considered for appointment together with the first three <br /> <br />applicants on any eligible list established for the classi- <br /> <br />fication for which such person had been in training." <br /> <br />SECTION 2. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be effective 30 days after <br /> <br />its adoption, and shall be operative retroactively from and after <br /> <br />October 1, 1974. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />1 ;1~.
