<br /> 6.1G <br /> Page 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> August 7, 2006 <br /> Subject <br /> Award of Contract - Red Morton Community Park Synthetic Turf Field Installation <br /> Project <br /> Recommendation <br /> By motion, approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for the Red Morton <br /> Community Park Synthetic Turf Field Installation Project to the lowest responsible <br /> bidder, Interstate Grading and Paving, Inc. of South San Francisco, California, for their <br /> low bid of $3,957,280.05. <br /> Background <br /> This project will convert the existing natural turf surface to synthetic turf at <br /> Griffin/Bechet, McGarvey, and Mitchell Fields, which are part of the Red Morton <br /> Community Park complex. The combined coverage of synthetic turf will be <br /> approximately 7.8 acres. Other improvements such as fencing, pathways, landscaping, <br /> and sport field lighting of McGarvey Field are also part of this project. <br /> This project is part of the water conservation measures identified and recommended by <br /> the Community Task Force on Recycled Water in their report to the City Council dated, <br /> March 3, 2004. The Recycle Water Project allocated $5 million toward the cost of the <br /> fields' conversion, which includes three other fields (Sandpiper, Marlin, and Hawes <br /> Parks). These funds are supplemented by the Proposition No. 40 block grant and the <br /> City's Capital Improvement Program, mainly for the non-water conservation <br /> components. <br /> The design of the fields was done by Beals Alliance, sport division, who was also the <br /> City's consultant for the Hoover and Fair Oaks synthetic field conversion that was <br /> completed in 2002 and 2005. Beals is considered one of the experts in this type of <br /> installation, and knows market conditions for this specialization very well. <br /> Three (3) bids were received at the bid opening on July 26, 2006.
