<br /> 78 <br /> BRUCE LIEDSTRAND Page 9 <br /> COMMUNITY DESIGN DIRECTOR <br /> Caltrain Connection to SFO <br /> The Caltrain connection between downtown Redwood City and San Francisco <br /> International Airport (SFO) is likely to become more important in the coming <br /> years as possible disruptions in the supply or price of gasoline make non-auto <br /> travel more desirable. The ability to fly into SFO and get convenient access to <br /> Downtown without renting a car is likely to make Downtown a prized location <br /> for both offices and residential in the future. <br /> Redwood City should continue to monitor that connection and work for <br /> increased services and convenience. <br /> Caltrain Connection to the Dumbarton Rail Corridor <br /> The Dumbarton Rail Corridor (ORe) project will extend commuter rail service <br /> across the Bay between the Peninsula and the East Bay on the existing <br /> Dumbarton ROW. Service will consist of six trains originating from the East Bay <br /> and traveling west in the morning peak and returning west in the evening peak. <br /> Daily ridership is projected at 4800 passengers when it opens in 2010 and <br /> growing to 6900 by 2025.4 The DRC will connect to the Caltrain line just south of <br /> Redwood City and Redwood City will be the first stop on the Caltrain line for <br /> the DRC trains. This additional rail connection to the East Bay makes Downtown <br /> a more desirable location for both office and residential. <br /> Redwood City should continue to support this important new connection to the <br /> East Bay. <br /> Caltrain/Ferryboat Connection <br /> The San Francisco Bay Area Water Transit Authority (WTA) is planning an <br /> expansion of ferry service on San Francisco Bay. One of the wr A goals is to <br /> /I efficiently, conveniently and cost-effectively transport East Bay residents the to <br /> their jobs on the Peninsula.5 A prime location for the Redwood City Ferry <br /> Terminal is the northerly end of Seaport Boulevard near the Pacific Shores office <br /> complex.
