Although <br />such shadng of public space can lead to conflicts between neighbors, a greater stretch of <br />the sidewalk area is made more active with pedestrian-intensive downtown uses. <br /> <br />Alternatives <br /> 1. Leave the Broadway Mall Ordinance as-is. <br />2. Change some or all of the staff recommendations. Staffs main recommendation is that <br /> the subject ordinance be amended to reflect the need for full public control of <br /> Downtown sidewalks. These are spaces to be shared for the purpose of making <br /> Downtown a good pedestrian place (even if it means allowing sidewalk Cafe tables on <br /> the sidewalk fronting other non-restaurant business). <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The current Broadway Mall Ordinance charges a ten dollar fee for Sidewalk Caf~ permits. <br />This does not cover the City costs for issuance.
