The cost for disaster restoration rose from $15,995 in Fiscal Year <br /> 2000/01 to expenditures of $44,378 in Fiscal Year 2001/02 or a 177% increase. <br /> The rise in costs was due to an increased number of back-ups and the increased <br /> cost of restoration services. <br /> <br />The new monthly charge would be $20.35, an increase of $0.78 per month for residential <br />customers. See attachments for additional impacts to customer bills. <br /> <br />Alternatives <br />The City Council could decline to raise the sewer service charge. Loss of revenues for <br />Fiscal Year 2002/03 would be approximately $240,000. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />If the Council approves the proposed changes to the sewer service charge as <br />recommended, a Redwood City residential customer's bimonthly sewer utility bill will <br />increase by $1.57 or4%, from $39.14 to $40.70.
