6.E. - Page 2 of 10 <br />• The establishment of programs which stimulate and encourage the development and <br />maintenance of the performing and visual arts in the City, and to review periodically such <br />programs. <br />• The establishment of programs memorializing or giving recognition to matters of cultural <br />significance in the City, and to review periodically such programs. <br />• The removal, relocation, or alteration of existing works of art or items of cultural significance in <br />the possession of the City. <br />• The acquisition by the City of any work of art, or item of cultural significance, and the proposed <br />location thereof. <br />• The aesthetics of the design and site development of any building, monument, or other structure <br />to be constructed or acquired by the City. <br />• Any matter affecting the beauty and culture of the City. <br />On April 9, 2018, the City Council unanimously approved the Redwood City Public Arts Master Vision. The <br />purpose of the Public Art Master Vision is to provide aesthetic direction to the ongoing public art activities <br />in Redwood City, and to offer practical tools and recommendations to help realize this vision. <br />The Public Art Master Vision provides a number of recommendations; presents an "Action Plan" <br />segmented into 1-3 years; 3-6 years; and 6-9 years; includes recommendations for the Commission; <br />details proper artist Requests for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/P); updates arts commissioning and <br />acquisition processes; and identifies top locations for public art. <br />Recommendations over a nine year period include: <br />1. The City Council approve the Public Art Master Vision <br />2. Rename the Civic Cultural Commission the Redwood City Arts Commission <br />3. Eliminate the Public Art Task Force and expand the responsibilities of the Commission <br />4. Commission to develop prioritize action list from Master Vision and launch arts and culture <br />webpage <br />5. Begin study amending the 1% for Public Art Resolution to include large scale private residential <br />construction projects <br />6. City Attorney to review artist contract templates to reduce City staff time in the future <br />7. Commission and City Council to host future joint study sessions related to creating strategy for <br />new art destinations in the City - priority of art locations as suggested in the Public Art Master <br />Vision <br />8. Inaugurate Downtown Library atrium as an exhibition art space <br />9. Work with the County on quarterly rotating exhibitions and other collaborative art initiatives <br />10. Increase annual Art in Public Places Fund as possible <br />11.
