I have
reviewed all af the fiformation you have submitted to make my facflndings.
The fotiowing is a summary a#your appiication and submittais:
i. The appficant provided a vaiid medical substantiation of the need for warm pool therapy, the
ariginal bas'ss for#he installatian afi a solar energy system on the raof of the house.
ii. The appticant provided three different submittals of solar panel arrangemen#s ranging from
18, 20 and 25 panels.
iii. The appiicant amended the or'sgina! request to include solar energy for mitigating the energy
issues assaciated with #he design ineffciencies of their home - windows and heating
system.
iv, The applicant showed the sotar panel arrangements as ait piaced on one raof direction face,
represented as the most favorabl, the sotathwest roof sxposure towards Nevada S#reet.
v. The applicant presented genera! details that modifying the installation on optiona! or muitiple
roaf faces would be marc expensive, by approximateiy $500.
vi, The applicant provided sun exposure details in the most recent June 20, 2006 submittal on
only the sauthwest roof expasure towards Nevada Street.
vii. The applicant Mas provided letters irom atijacen# neighbars stating that they will object to the
instaltation in a diffeent position than the roaf fce towards Nevada due to aesthetic f view
concems.
viii. The appticant stated that budget limitations wfll na# aliow installation of a more complicated
framing system to put the paneis an a differen#roof facs or multiple faces.
ix. The applicant is under a time constraint as the rebate pragram offered by CEC via Solar
Technologies changes after June 30tn
The foHowing are staff's censiderations of the request:
a} The two City-owned Sycamore street trees proposed for removal benefit the community.
They are heaithy and contribute to the streetscape on Nevada. They aiso have a significant
Iifespan alead and represent an increasingly valuable public asset.
b) The trees shade the Nevada frarrtage of the applicanYs home in the aftemoon, which should
reduce interiar tempera#ures, at least #a some degree, and shoukd reduce cfloiing needs in
the months the trees are in leaf, even if air conditioning is used. in fact, standard °green
building" practices encourage planting deciduous trees on the southem exposues of homes
Page 1 of 3
