Background On October 24, 2005, Ciiy Council awarded the tree mai�tenance services bid to the Profiessional Tree Care Co. of Berkeiey, CA, in the amount of$218,595. This is the first amendment year of the five-year contract. The agreement cavers the five-year period, through August 31, 2090, a(iowing the City, each consecutive year, to adjust the quantities based on the adopted budget, and adjust the unit prices based on the Consumer Price Index �CPO for San Francisco/San Jose/Oakland up to a maximum of 5%. �fhe current 12-month CPf increase fram June 20Q5 to June 2006 is 3.9%. The unit bid prices wilt be increased by 3.9% in the amendment. The cantract street tree maintenance ssrvices are essential to the City's on-going Str�et Tree Maintenance Program. The City has a two person in-house tree crew and cannot provide the necessary tree maintenance for the City's 18,000 street trees without additional support. The contract professional services funding in the adopted tree maintenance budget is at the same level as FY 2005-2006, $218,595.Q0. Based on the previous budget reductions, the City's tree maintenance standards were reduced to: • Removing street and park trees found to be dead, dying, ar structurally unsound • Minimum pruning of stree#and park trees—anly removing: - low limbs for clearance over sidewaiks, streets, and structures -dead branches greater than one-inch in diameter, and - limbs found to be weak and prone to failure. • We are no longer able to perform complete routine tree pruning for shaping or aesthetics.
