6.2A <br /> Page 1 <br /> ����� � <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and C�ty Counc�l <br /> From the Ci Mana �r <br /> September 1'{, 2006 <br /> Subject <br /> Finai Acceptance- Cathodic Protection System Upgrades far the Topaz and Redwood <br /> Shores Wa#er Transmission Pipe[ines Project <br /> Recommendation <br /> By motion; accept the Cathodic Protection System Upgrades for the Topaz and <br /> Redvvvad Shores Water Transrr►ission Pipeiines Project, and authorize the release of <br /> bonds and retention according to City procedures. <br /> Background <br /> 4n July 25, 2005, the City Counci! awarded the consfruction cantract for fihe Cathodic <br /> Profection System Upgrades for the Topaz and Redwood Shores Water Transmission <br /> Pipelines Project to Corrpro Companies, Inc. of San Leandro, Caiifomia, for the amount <br /> af $529,C300.�0. <br /> This project consisted of upgrades of the existing cathodic �rotectian systems for the <br /> City's water transmission pipelines to and within t�e Redwood Shores Area. These <br /> metaNic-based pipetine systems were origina�fy built in phases to support the <br /> development of Redwood Shores; some are 30 years old. Most were construc#ed with <br /> a now-sub�tan�ard cvrrosion pro#ection system, �fiile others v��ere designe� vvitho�t <br /> proper protection or shared-protectian against the most eorrasive soil environment in <br /> the City. <br /> The main retrofit work involved adding twa (2} new rectifiers to the existing seven (7) <br /> for the Redwood Shores Area, and two (2} new rect�ers on the 24" Topaz <br /> Transmission Pipeline that brings water from the Hetch Hetchy turnout at Topaz Street <br /> into Redwood Shores. In addition, miscellan�ous impravements were perFormed to <br /> retrofi# the existing cathodic protection system on these criti�al pipelines. <br /> The projeet has been successfufly completed in accordance with the plans and <br /> specifications for a tatal cost ofi $54�,000.�0.
