EXHIBIT "A" <br /> <br /> POLICY ESTABLISING CONTINUATION OF SALARY AND BENEFITS <br /> FOR CITY EMPLOYEES CALLED TO ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY <br /> <br /> 1. Any employee in the competitive service of the City of Redwood <br /> City, whether in permanent or probationary status, who has been called to active <br /> duty as a result of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ("NATO") response to <br /> warring factions within the Balkans (primarily, Yugoslavia and provinces thereof) <br /> as a member of the California National Guard or a United States Military Reserve <br /> Organization shall receive the following compensation and benefits; provide, that <br /> if such employee's active military service continues for a period of more than six <br /> (6) months, continuation of such benefits shall be subject to the approval of the <br /> City Council, whose decision shall be final. <br /> <br /> a. For the first thirty (30) days of active military service such employee <br /> shall receive full compensation in accordance with the <br /> compensation schedule for the position held by such person, which <br /> City compensation shall be in addition to any compensation which <br /> the employee receives from the military service. Thereafter, the <br /> City shall pay to said employee the difference between the <br /> compensation payable pursuant to said employee's City <br /> compensation schedule and the compensation paid to said <br /> employee by the military service. <br /> <br /> b. Such employee shall be provided, during the aforesaid six-month <br /> period of military service, full benefits in addition to salary, including <br /> vacation accrual, sick leave accrual, compensatory time or payment <br /> in lieu of compensatory time, health coverage, dental coverage, <br /> and employment credit for retirement benefits, to the extent <br /> consistent with, or provided by, current memoranda of understating <br /> or other enactments of, or approved by, the City Council. <br /> <br /> 2. Reemployment of persons subject to the provision of this policy <br />shall be governed by provisions of State or Federal law in effect at the time of <br />such reemployment; provided, however, that nothing in this paragraph contained <br />shall be deemed to reduce or affect the provisions of paragraphs 1 and 2. <br /> <br /> 3.
