<br />6.10 <br />Page 21 <br /> <br />The Fire Chief shall have final authority on the number of Fire Captains <br />authorized to receive paramedic certification pay. <br /> <br />As medics are promoted to the classification of Fire Captain, the Fire Chief <br />will determine the business need for additional Fire Captain/Paramedics. If <br />the business need is fulfilled no others will be added to the system unless a <br />vacancy occurs or the business need increases, as determined by the Rre <br />Chief. If more than one Fire Captain is promoted at the same time, <br />available slots will be filled according to their ranking on the Fire Captain's <br />promotional list. If the business need has already been met and a vacancy <br />occurs, the vacancy will be filled from a list of qualified Fire Captains by <br />seniority as Fire Captains. <br /> <br />7.7 Court Pay <br /> <br />An off-duty employee who is subpoenaed to appear in court or at a coroner's <br />inquest in cases in which the City is a party shall be compensated at one and <br />one-half (1-1/2) times his/her regular straight-time rate for all hours the <br />employee is so ordered to appear with a minimum of three (3) hours. Any <br />fees received by the employee for their testimony will be turned into the City <br />for deposit into the general fund. <br /> <br />7.8 Call-back Pay <br /> <br />If a regular classified employee of the Fire Department, who has completed <br />the normal shift or tour of duty, is called back to work, that employee shall, <br />upon reporting for duty, receive a minimum of three (3) hours' work at the <br />overtime rate. If three (3) hours' work is not required, the employee shall <br />receive a minimum of three (3) hours' pay at the overtime rate. This <br />provision does not apply to instances in which the employee is required to <br />continue to remain on duty after completion of a normal shift or tour of duty. <br /> <br />7.9 Acting Pay <br /> <br />7.9.1 The City shall, whenever practical, assign those employees who <br />have demonstrated their ability to perform the duties of the higher <br />classification in accordance with the criteria for selection in the <br />Department Operations Manual. It is understood, that employees <br />selected to perform the duties of a higher classification will be those <br />who have achieved the top step of their regular classification. <br /> <br />7.9.2 Whenever a temporary vacancy occurs and it is determined by the <br />City that the position should be temporarily filled, an employee may <br />be assigned by the Fire Chief to work in the higher paid <br />classification at a rate of pay which is ten percent (10%) above <br />his/her adjusted hourly rate. <br /> <br />14 <br />
