A minimum distance of three <br /> <br /> <br />feet, shell to shell, shall be maintained between <br /> <br /> <br />underground tanks. <br /> <br /> <br />II 'b. Depth and Cover. Excavation for underground <br /> <br /> <br />storage tanks shall be made with due care to avoid <br /> <br /> <br />undeDmining of foundations of existing structures. <br /> <br /> <br />Underground tanks shall be set on a f inn foundation, <br /> <br /> <br />the perimeter of which foundation shall be surrounded <br /> <br /> <br />with a minimum of six inches of clean sand. The tank <br /> <br /> <br />shall be surrounded wit.h a minimum of 12 inches of <br /> <br /> <br />clean sand or equal material well-tamped in place. <br /> <br /> <br />II 'Tanks- shall be covered with a minimum of two <br /> <br /> <br />feet of sand or shall be covered by not less than <br /> <br /> <br />one foot of sand on top of which shall be placed a <br /> <br /> <br />slab of reinforced concrete not less than four inches <br /> <br /> <br />thick. When underground tanks are or are likely to <br /> <br /> <br />be subjected to traffic, they shall be protected <br /> <br /> <br />against damage from vehicles passing over them by <br /> <br /> <br />,at least three feet of sand or, in the alternative, <br /> <br /> <br />18 inches of "Jell-tamped' sand plus six inches of <br /> <br /> <br />reinforccd concrete or ei~ht inches of asphaltic <br /> <br /> <br />concrete.
