"-'-", ".:.",", ,',' ".",.: - :.', .- .,-, .... ,'- ", ,'.':; '~~~_..I December 4, 2006 Subject Agreement between Redwood City 2020 and Jewish Family Children Seryices Recommendation Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Agreement between the City of Redwood City, as fiscal agent for Redwood City 2020 (RC 2020), and Jewish Family Children Services to support the full implementation of the First 5 Grant addressing Early Education and Quality Child Care Background Redwood City 2020 was awarded a three year grant from First 5 San Mateo in the amount of $656,538 over three years (fiscal years 2004 - 2007). In this final year of the grant, $110,000 is proposed to be contracted to Parents Place - a non-sectarian program of Jewish Family Children Services - to provide professional development to ;. home and private daycare providers, early mental health services to families in Redwood City School District's Child Development Center, and consultation services to preschool teachers in Redwood City School District's Child Development Center. These activities enable us to achieve our goal of providing high quality childcare and preschool education to children and their families throughout Redwood City. The City of Redwood City's Child Care Coordinator will work in partnership with Parents Place to market workshops to childcare providers in Redwood City. The Child Care Coordinator will prioritize outreach to home-based childcare providers since they tend to be more isolated and serve lower income families than do center-based childcare providers. The professional development offered through this program provides an invaluable opportunity for these providers to learn innovative practices in the areas of improving and maintaining relationship with parents, multiple sensory learning, and classroom management. RC 2020 will take a leadership role in the ongoing coordination of the grant and all related activities. It will be responsible for working with the two subcontractors - Jewish Family Children Services and Redwood City School District - Child Development Centers. Alternative Council may choose not to enter into this Agreement.
